Application and selection

The maximum number of course participants is limited to 70, to facilitate interactions.  This FEBS Advanced course will target early career scientsts (ECRs) from different areas of basic biological sciences and medicine, primarily experienced PhD students and post-doctoral level scientists within 5 years after completion of their doctorate.  Whilst mainly focussed on European participation, other applicants are welcome.

Selection will be on the basis of CVs and submitted abstracts, but representation of different topics at the event, and career stage, geographical distribution and gender balance may also be taken into consideration.  Successful applicants will be required to bring a poster and give a short oral presentation (5 minutes).

How to apply

By the deadline of 14th May 2018:

1. Complete the online registration process by the deadline of 14th May 2018.  Please make sure you complete ALL of the fields.

2. During this process, all applicants will need to upload a single file (accepted formats are pdf, zip and rar) containing at least the following supporting documents:

a. a letter of recommendation from your Supervisor, confirming your status as PhD student or Young Investigator
b. a summary of your reasons for applying to the event, your research interests and expected source of funding (max 300 words)
        c. a concise CV (max 2 pages)
        d. if you are applying for a bursary (please select only one), evidence of membership of the relevant society (YTF / sponsorship pages).  You may need to supply additional information

3. Submit an abstract via the online system.


You will be notifiied of the outcome of your application by 15th June 2018 at the latest. Accepted applicants must then pay the relevant registration fee as set out in the table below, by 15th July 2018. More details on registration fee payment will be included in your outcome notification, and key points are also given in the terms and conditions.

Registration fees

The registration fee covers the stay at Spetses Hotel on a shared basis from September 17 (Arrival) to September 23 (Departure). If you need to stay (an) additional day(s), you will have to pay for it separately and arrange for this by contacting the hotel to book any required extra night(s). All meals and refreshments are included in registration fee.  Travel is not included.

NOTE: Only researchers employed under the Marie Sklodowska-Curie EU Framework for Research and Innovation Horizon 2020, Grant Agreement No. 675132 MASSTRPLAN project are eligible for the MASSTRPLAN fee waiver.

Terms and Conditions

By registering for the event, participants (also referred to as 'you') are entering into an agreement with the Course Organizer(s), and you are indicating acceptance of the terms and conditions set out below.

Registration Fee

The registration Fee for participants covers:

  • Access to all scientific programme sessions
  • All meals and refreshments
  • Accommodation at  Spetses Hotel (in a shared room), as set out on the Venue/Accommodation page
  • Name badge, printed materials and certificate of attendance
  • Participation in a cultural / social event

Travel costs are not covered by the registration fee.

Methods of Payment

Details of how to pay will be included in your outcome notification email. 

Bank charges are the responsibility of the participant and should be paid at source.

Proof of payment must be received before the stated deadline

A confirmation notification will be sent to you when the organizers receive the funds and confirm your registration in the system. If you do not receive confirmation within 7 business days after receipt of transaction, please contact info@redoxomics.febsevents.org

Registration cancellation & refund policy

All registration cancellation requests should be sent to info@redoxomics.febsevents.org. For cancellation requests received on or before 1st September, 2018, 50% of the payment, less bank charges, will be refunded; for cancellation requests received on and after this date, the full amount will be charged and no refunds will be made. No cash refunds will be made for the credit card payments in the case of cancellation.

Travel insurance

You should seek and follow the advice of your government before registering and booking travel for the event and before travelling to the event. You are solely responsible for making your own appropriate travel and other insurance arrangements before booking travel for the Congress.

Modification and cancellation of the event

The Course Organizers reserve the right to modify the event programme, which is published as an indication only.

In the event of cancellation of the event, at any time, as a result of any event of 'force majeure' or for other reasons that are beyond the control of the Course Organizers, the registration fee shall be refunded by the Course Organizers but neither the Course Organizers nor FEBS shall be held liable for any other costs or losses incurred, such as transportation costs, financial losses, etc. 

Disclaimer and ‘force majeure’

Neither the Course Organizers nor FEBS shall be responsible for any bodily injury/death or property damages (including theft) sustained by participants during the event, unless such damages are a direct result of the negligent or unlawful act or omission thereof.

In any event, neither the Course Ogranizers nor FEBS accept liability for damages in the event of bodily injury/death, property damage, disruption to travel plans and costs incurred as a result of ‘force majeure’.  ‘Force majeure’ (or ‘Act of God’) reasons include but are not limited to: war or threat of war, riots, civil strife, terrorist activity, industrial disputes, natural or nuclear disaster, adverse weather conditions, epidemics, health risks, fire and closure of airports or airspace. 

Governing law

Any legal dispute resulting from the accepted terms and conditions will be subject to the law of the United Kingdom.
